Hello all
Just sign up today to your great forum, I am on my second build and I decided to go with a bolt on neck, my question is does the portion of the finger board that rest's on the sound board still gets glued down. idunno

The general consensus is yes. There doesn't need to be glue under the whole tongue. I clean the finish off in a 1/4" rout just inside the edge and leave the finish on in the middle...

Hi Les, and welcome to the forum!

Yes, the fretboard extension is usually glued down. It contributes greatly in the neck joint structure, helping to prevent the neck from bending forward over time.

That said, some people here don't agree with me.

Les: Welcome to the forum and the confusion........!!! Just to counter general opinion, I have two guitars that I have played every day for a number of years that have excellent action, no buzzs, and the fingerboard extensions are not glued down. The only thing I noticed was a tendency to require a slight neck reset within about the first six months or so. Since then they have been as steady as a rock. That aside I don't advocate not gluing the extension, I just wanted to put forward my experience that has resulted in no injury to the guitar.
